The color Yellow

Here's a story I'll never forget.

My Lola went to Japan and Miguel and I were the only apos back then who were old enough to play with Action Figures. Jonty was still a baby then.

She called me and Miguel and she had her hands at her back hiding something. She asks Miguel, "Left or Right?" So Miguel chose first since he was younger. He got the Fiveman Red with a motorcycle and I got Fiveman Yellow... At first I was like "what? I got the girl action figure? :(" And the sad part, it was the time wherein I loved the leaders, Red 1, Steve, Captain Power, etc. Plus miguel was making me jealous... You know how little kids acted...

But my Lola talked to me after and said something to the effect like "it's ok Jiggy, you're the older one, you have to set an example to your younger cousin and brother. besides, Yellow is my color :)"

I was ok after she said that Yellow was her color. But other than that, I guess that was the day I knew what being the eldest apo was all about. It had perks attached to it but at the same time, being the eldest came with having to make sacrifices...

That was the day yellow became significant in my life. It was Lola's color.

Looking back at yesterday's press conference of Nonito Donaire, his wife Rachel said that the color yellow, for her, stood for Hope and the Bright Future for the next generation. But it's up to us to give the bright future...

Yellow may mean a lot of things. But to me, it means the love and sincerity of a grandmother to her grandson...

That's a nice and cute story Jiggy. Being the eldest of 3, I can understand what you felt back then. Luckily for me, I'm the only boy with 2 "painful and noisy" sisters who were fighting for Chodenshi Bioman's "Yellow 4" and "Pink 5" (my middle-child sister have always liked the color yellow; while our bunso has no choice but to settle for pink). As for me, I can either be "Red 1" or "Blue 3" ("Green 2" was my best friend's fave then).

It's nice to know that your Lola Cory was the one who opened your eyes about the color that toppled a despotic dictator!

I guess the so-called "yellow fever" has long been associated with the Aquinos. One time, I saw one of my dad's old books (from his law school days) in our shelf, where "Vicente 'Mr. Yellow' Aquino" was written boldly on its side. It was only then that I realized he likes the color yellow long before the yellow ribbons and confetti became popular during protests! I guess that's also the reason why my middle-child sister likes yellow, too...not to mention being a daddy's girl whose name is "Vicky." ;-)

yellow color..well for me it represents love, hope, optimism, friendship, freedom,etc..and that's what cory aquino brought to our country, her governance wasn't the greatest of all,but i have no recollection of her being involved in any shameful scam, fraud, that our president today has too many under her name..

Hi, that was a sweet entry. we featured you and your cousins in the latest issue of The Buzz Magasin. :) Anyway, I sent an email to Jonty since I was also inquiring if we can feature the shirts he's selling and I also attached there our feature about you guys. Let me know if you will have your book re-printed, we can feature it also in the magazine with Jonty's shirts too. We would want also to inspire our youth and you guys are really good examples. Most of our readers kasi are young peepz and moms.

You are a fan pala of Kuya Gerry Alanguilan? Wow, he was once our contributor in the Buzz Mag. For like two years ata, he published his Timawa artwork...galing-galing niya.

I am attaching the link to my multiply site for our September 2009 cover...for your Lola Cory and the Aquino family. Tuloy ang Laban!:) God Bless!:)

hi jiggy..I'm a big fan of your blogs and you really are a sensible person. You always tell stories about your lola cory and that makes me become more excited to read your blogs. I am also the eldest apo of both sides so my lolas treat me extra special and I know the love I felt with my them is the same with the love of your lola for you. Continue the legacy of being the epitome of upright individuals. Your lola is now free from pains and heaven celebrates because the favorite daughter of God is finally HOME.
