Reading: Stay old school or Digital?

I wrote an entry for Yahoo on comic book reading. I said that sticking old school was my preferred choice.

But for books, I see people who travel have the Amazon Kindle! It seems that the trend really is going to go digital. You see, I've been cleaning my room and my shelves aren't getting any bigger. My graphic novel library is getting bigger but at the same time, I have books too. I took those out already to give way to the new graphic novels.

I'm thinking of getting a Kindle for the books. But then again, I have to feel it first. I need to hold a Kindle and experience reading through that. I'm gonna miss the smell of the paper and flipping the pages. Plus what about the colored pictures? :/ How now brown cow?

There are the pros and cons. But what I can think of now is that I'll miss holding an actual book and flipping through the pages. Plus I like going to bookstores!

The only pro I can think of now is that it will save you space...

What do you think? You think you can help me decide? Oh, I forgot to mention, I won't use any digital device in reading comics. I'm not even going to use the iPad unless of course it's exclusively digital and not print.

But for the books... Hmmm... I don't know really...

I can thoroughly relate to this post Jiggy. I'm a bookworm in all sense and despite of the Kindle being a booming trend, I still believe that nothing beats that wonderful feeling of going to bookstores and flipping through the pages of a book.

Oh, not to forget that nostalgic feeling of seeing the pages turn yellow in time.

i'm also of the traditional kind and i still prefer holding an actual book in my hands, being able to admire the art on the cover flipping it over to read the words at the back of the book and, more importantly, being able to insert a bookmark to hold the page where you last left off.

I stumbled across this blog through your Twitter and I too am getting interested with the hype that is the Kindle. I don't think I'm getting one anytime soon, though. Like you, I also like graphic novels, and I'm only just about to start my collection, that wouldn't fare well on a Kindle.

If it helps, I'm planning to get the iPad 2. Sure, it's more expensive and heavy, but at least it has colour (e.g. I can download graphic novels). Plus, unlike the Kindle, I can actually flip the pages, albeit virtually! :)

I started realizing that I've become a bookworm years back when I kept on bugging my mom to buy me books and books for my 'bisyo'. But then, years and years later, I've seen that my little room wouldn't suffice anymore for my babies and so I started convincing myself(this year only)that I would soon say goodbye to the hard copies(yes, to the changing colors of my aging books) and welcome the world of hi-tech reading in my system despite the heartbreak of such decision.

I think I am not ready yet to buy a Kindle or any ebook reader for that matter. I am still loving the feeling of going to the bookstores and spending a lot on books I want to read. Also, the feeling of smelling the new pages of the book and flipping every page as you get immersed into the story's world is wonderful and fulfilling. I know books will fill my shelves until there's no space, but for now, I don't care. Maybe it will be a long time until I go digital, but not for today. :)
