I was talking to Tito Rapa earlier and we were talking about the numerous masses being offered for my Lola. Even a 40hour vigil is being offered at the EDSA Shrine!
My Lola's hanging on and she's fighting cancer. I think that she's defying all medical explanations.
But what's really amazing that even as she sleeps in her hospital bed, she somehow brought a lot of people together in prayer! I can imagine the number of people praying and coming back to God.
Maybe the Good Lord is using my Lola as His instrument to bring people together... I mentioned in an interview earlier that she and God have a very special bond. I really believe that!!!
The best advice my Lola gave me was "In whatever you do, just do your best and God will do the rest" I'll never forget the other piece of wisdom my Lola taught me. "At the gates of heaven, you won't be asked what grade you got in Math or Science or English, you'll be asked if you were good during your stay in the world..."
Simple pieces of advice but very effective. I love my Lola for telling me that... She's my hero.

ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping that the news I read is not real, that it's not true. Reading the news makes me feel that I, like a lot of Filipinos, lose someone very dear - like my own lola.

I am trying to stop the tears but i cannot it keeps on falling. I can feel the pain but i am happy for her because i know God is waiting for her. She will always be on our heart. It is indeed amazing how she has made numerous people from all over the world come together to pray and be closer to Him! I am personally inspired by her unwaivering faith and love for the Lord. Your stories about her and your family continue to inspire the rest of us, so I thank you for sharing them here in your blog. We will continue to pray for her and your family as we bid her our final farewell. But though she has gone, she will always remain in the Filipinos' corazones... Long live Cory!

So growing up being her president was something that I usually recall... of course, for her works and making our country a better place...and not experiencing those years that my 3 eldest brothers did experience. ReplyDeleteWe were one of the millions of people at EDSA I. I was 7 years old when we moved overseas permanently- my parents have always loved the Philippines and in turn I have too.
I had the opportunity to work there and whilst living there I was confused and dismayed with what I saw - this was not the Philippines my parents loved... it couldn't be.
Your grandmother's self less sacrifice as a public servant, as a mother, as a grandmother is so heroic, so noble and so immeasurable.
I hope and pray that your grandmother's sacrifice and your lolo's sacrifice are not in vain.
I hope their sacrifices may serve as an inspiration for Filipinos to love themselves, respect themselves and have pride in themselves... maybe just maybe by doing so they will love their country and the Philippines will be a much better place.
She is everyone's hero. The champion of democracy.

ReplyDeleteit's because of your lola and her will to fight for democracy that i became proud of my heritage. granted, some may not understand, but when you are a Filipino born in another country who has lived in multiple countries you end up "forgetting" your roots due to the vast cultural differences you encounter and blend into.
